Hi everyone, here I am, Janet Roach, back again with another one of my Facebook lives. Now, what I want to talk to you about today is, is modern day life depleting your vitality?

It’s an important question. So I want to talk to you about how to use herbs and tea to look and feel great. Now, as I said before my name’s Janet Roach, you may know me from the cast of the Real Housewives of Melbourne. I am a certified tea master, I am avid gardener, and the use of herbs and tea has been my obsession for over 40 years. So, that’s what I want to talk to you today, about how to look and feel great with herbs and tea.

Now, we all know that drinking a cup of tea can have an amazing impact on your health, and well-being, and vitality. You know vitality when you see it. It’s like the 75 year old grandmother who swims two miles a day. Or the passionate florist who loves day lilies and has you buying them by the dozen. People with vitality often overflow with that special something. They stand out from the rest of life like shiny pennies. The active ingredient, now listen to this, the active ingredient present in many herbs are the origins of most of our pharmaceutical medicines today. Herbs have been used as medicines for thousands of years. And, let me show you how.

So, let’s start with, do you have problems sleeping? Do you find that you’re one of those people that get into bed, put your head on the pillow, you lay there, and you can’t turn your mind off? And it just goes round and round, what he said, what she said, what I should have done, blah, blah, blah. And just ruminate all night. Or do you suffer from a light restless sleep where you’re sort of up and down, like a yo-yo, up and down, because you know you shouldn’t stay in bed if you’re not sleeping. If you’re really having problems sleeping you need to get up and break that cycle. That’s actually something that I learned about when I was making our Sleep tea.

However, if that is you, you are having problems sleeping, did you know that chamomile can calm the mind and relax the body? Now, if you added, say passionflower, all these things that you can get from the health food shop anyway. If you add passionflower, that relieves anxiety and relaxes the body. So, you add chamomile to passionflower, and you will sleep well and wake up rested and refreshed. Are you sort of getting the picture here? Do you see how this works? So there are a whole lot of other things, like another example.

Do you ever wish you could tap into more energy? I know I do. Do you ever sort of suffer from that 3:00 pm fade, where it sort of gets to 3:00 pm and you think, “Oh my God, I’d really like to get back to my bed and have a nap.” Or would you enjoy more stamina and endurance in your workouts or during … playing sport? Well, of course you would. We all would. We all want more energy in this day and age. Did you know that Gaba has been proven to increase mental focus and activity? It also boosts energy and endurance. Or, try Yerba Mate. It contains properties that keep you alert all day. Now, if you combine these two things, and perhaps use them as a pre-workout drink, you will feel the power of your workout improve. It will become easier and you will become stronger. And, you really … you won’t believe the difference.

So you see it’s about adding things together, or not. I mean, you could just take the one thing if that’s what the problem is. But I find that things that work, in say, a two-pronged approach, are the things that actually, actually do the best. And I mean, a lot of these things, if you haven’t got them in your pantry, you can get them from the health food shop.

So, here are a few tips that I have to make sure that you get the most benefits from your brew. And I call them the golden rules, so really listen to these because they are the difference between having something that actually works, and something that doesn’t.

So, always empty your kettle first. Let that last lot of water that was pre-boiled or whatever, out. Water that has been boiled before doesn’t have oxygen in it anymore, alright? And we need it to have that. Mix all of your herbs, place one to two teaspoons into your tea pot.

Now, here’s the trick, never let the kettle boil, 90 degrees is as high as you want to go. That is because boiled water kills all of the nutrients in your herbs. So you got to keep it under that boiling. There are a lot of things you can do with that, you can boil the kettle and then let it sit for four or five minutes. Sometimes if I’m really in a hurry, I’ll put a little bit of cold water in the bottom with my tea, and then just put the kettle down the side of the pot. Just so I know that I’m not boiling my herbs, and then just completely destroying them. They’re not going to do the things that you want them to do.

Okay, now, everyone knows that I am obsessed with the power of herbs. But did you know that I’ve written a book, and I’ve called it The Ultimate Guide to Aphrodisiacs that Really Work. So, I want to talk about other herbs and things now. So keep in Sasha, alright because this might be a good one for you. Do you ever go to a party, you get introduced to three different people, you got Sam, and Sally, and Peter, and you’re standing there talking to them and 30 seconds later you think, “I’ve forgotten their name. I can’t believe it.” Or do you like go into a room and think, “What was I … what did I come in here for?” Or forget where you left where you left your keys? And then we all forget where we left our keys, better than forgetting where we left our car. Have you ever sort of studied all night for a test, and woken up in the morning and your mind is in absolute blank? It’s just sort of like, you feel like you’re just not retaining the information.

I feel that our brains are … get so overloaded with so much information everyday, but try some Bacopa. It’s known to improve your ability to retain new information and increase your visual processing speed. Now that’s really good for all of us now, because we’re all on devices … 20 years ago, we didn’t have any of these devices. And we’re all on the phone, and we got all that blue light and everything coming. What you want to do it stop being so overloaded. If you add some Ginkgo Biloba to assist the blood flow to the brain, put these two together in a combination, and heat up your kettle. I’m telling you, they will super charge your memory and retention.

So, that is because there are micro-nutrients in herbs that we haven’t even discovered yet, and it’s the combination and balance of these micro-nutrients that allow our bodies to absorb the beneficial effects. So you getting what I’m saying, saying that because the plant is whole and it comes with all the other things that body actually needs. And over a millennial, our bodies have come to a state where they are able to absorb these things that in the right balance, and you can absorb them. I’m not going to get on my soap box here because I will get smacked around on the back of my head by my children. But I am dubious of the fact that we could isolate as in saw vitamins and supplements, and certain things out of plants. Because I don’t know that we have … that our bodies then have the ability to absorb them. So, that is why gently steeping a herb in it’s most natural state with all it’s micro-nutrients, it’s really necessary for the body to absorb it. So you’re going to get the whole package together in the right proportions. Okay.

Now, like most you, I have tried every single diet on the planet. Why are we so obsessed with our weight? Probably because we’re all getting fatter. I’ve tried no carbs, no fat, all protein, vegetarian, vegan, I’ve even tried the thing where … I don’t know if you’ve tried it, eating like all bananas for a day. Or eating all watermelon for a day, you know, eating all of one food for a day. Now you know what it’s like a new fad comes out, everyone’s doing it, your friends are reporting amazing results, you get motivated, you go to the supermarket, you buy your foods for you, you buy the family’s food for them. You get home, you make two meals, you prepare all of yours, you prepare all of theirs. And you sit down and watch the family eat, and you feel miserable, and deprived. After a couple of days, your energy starts to wain because you’re putting enough nutrients into your body. You really crave something sweet. That’s me, I get really sweet cravings. And then, you feel hungry all the time. To add insult to injury, you decide, look it’s just too hard to sustain. To add insult to injury after, I don’t know, a few days, in my case usually three to four days, or five days. All the weight that I actually worked so hard to take off, just goes straight back on.

Now, what if you could eat the same meals as your family, stop feeling miserable and deprived, and hungry. And do all of that by doing just one small thing regularly that you really enjoy. And see your weight come off naturally and painlessly. I mean this sounds like a bloody slimming AD or something, but no I really mean this. You can, get yourself some Yerba Mate. Yerba Mate is a drink that is so, so, so popular in South America. Everybody drinks it over there, probably a bit like, I’m thinking say, like say Americans drink coffee. And they drink it because it increases your energy levels. It decreases your cravings for sugar, and decreases your appetite. And that’s why they all love it. You need to work with your body. You need to work with the systems in your body because that’s the only way that this is all going to work. So as I said, you need to increase your energy, reduce your sugar cravings, and decrease your hunger, or decrease your appetite, okay? Yerba Mate is going to do all these things, I promise you. You’ll be absolutely amazed.

Now, another thing that you can add to that, you want to sort of try to boost your metabolism. And fennel … fennel, good old fennel will boost your metabolism and then your body is able to burn more fat. Add the very, very tasty cinnamon. And cinnamon decreases your blood sugar, it speeds your metabolism, and it helps to suppress your appetite. So put all of these things … these three things together, in combination, and you will just have a killer combination. Okay, so make a large pot in the morning, drink four or five cups during the day, stop at about 5:00 pm, though because your don’t need to be bursting with energy at night, running around the house. You’ll be amazed how good you feel while you are effortlessly losing weight. Because by decreasing your appetite and all of the cravings, it stops you from wanting to eat all those bad things and the extra things, and the extra meals and things that you have. You have energy so you don’t worry so much about that terrible feeling. And I’m telling you, this is a killer combination. Okay.

Now, herbs aren’t just good at treating ailments, they’re also good at preventing illnesses as well. So herbs work by nourishing the natural systems in the body. Boosting these natural systems, keeps them running at their optimum level, allowing the body to fight off and treat any threats before they can become a problem. Like, a cold. Okay, there’s nothing worse than coming down with a bad cold. You know, you start with that little bit of a tickle in the back there, a sore throat, a bit of a temperature, you get a bit sort of fragile, a little bit achy and head-achy. When that happens to me I think, oh, I go to bed early and I pray … I pray oh God, I hope I’m not getting sick. You wake up the next morning and you feel like you’re body is made of stone, everything’s so heavy. Your throat’s like razor blades and it’s like someone has turned on a tap that is running out of your nose. I hate that feeling.

Wouldn’t it be good if you knew that you weren’t going to get a cold this year, and if by chance you did, it would be very mild and very short. So, I think the trick here is to take preventative measures, and to strengthen and nourish your immune system before the cold and flu season. So, start will Calendula. Calendula is said to boost and strengthen the immune system. It does, add some hibiscus which is really, really high in antioxidants. It taste delicious calendula and hibiscus, so make a pot of the tea, remember the golden rule, 90 degrees, empty the kettle and put fresh water in it, steep for three to five minutes. Make a couple of cups, drink a couple of cups in the morning, couple cups in the afternoon or early evening. Everyday for four weeks before winter, and continue all through winter. By boosting your immune system, if it does come into contact with these germs and different threats. It is really, really working at it’s optimum and it’s able to fight them. And that’s what you want, prevention is better. Look, of course we can’t prevent everything.

So let’s say … take for example, injuries. Now if you don’t want to live your life wrapped in cotton wool, like who does? And you want to enjoy training, and sports, let’s face it, you run the risk of injuries. Even if it’s just sore muscles after training, or a pulled muscle, or a slight strain. Look, we all get them, and did you know that soreness is caused by inflammation. If you can manage the inflammation, the soreness will go away. So here I’ve got some really good powerful herbs for you.

You have to get yourself, and this is probably my absolute favourite for this, you got some meadowsweet. That is little white flowers. But, the meadowsweet is often used as an aspirin replacement, and I think that’s kind of where the whole idea of aspirin came from. So these are really quite potent these meadowsweet flowers. I would use them slowly at first, but they’re excellent, excellent for pain. They have been used as an aspirin replacement for treating arthritis, and other body aches and pains. And another good one to add with that is Echinacea. Echinacea helps your body to heal, so you’ll reduce your recovery time in the gym, help to manage the discomfort of injuries while speeding up the healing process. Speeding up the healing process is where you’re going to reduce your time in the gym because it’s all about getting all those little tears healed.
