Flu Shot or Not?
We’ve recently received some feed back in regards to the Flu shot, and whether or not you should get the Flu shot. Janet will address this very controversial subject.
Here’s what we cover:
- How Janet feels about recommending people get the Flu shot. To recommend or not recommend
- What the Flu shot protects against, and how affective is the Flu shot
- Camelia Sinensis – Tea House in Montreal Canada, and their book Tea
- Studies and testing on tea and herb infusions to measure efficacy
Flu Shot or Not?
My name is Janet Roach. I’m a mad dog lover, a proud mum and educating people about the healing power of tea, is my obsession.
After last weeks live show, I received some comments from viewers, that felt I should be recommending people get the Flu shot. They felt that what I was talking about was not that important, and that the Flu shot was the be all and end all of stopping you from getting the Flu.
Now this is a very controversial subject at the moment, all vaccines are. I feel strongly that to have the Flu shot or not, is a deeply personal decision. It’s not for me to recommend or not to recommend. My knowledge and expertise is in the natural remedies that work, with no side effects, or any harm.
You can still get the Flu even if you have had a shot, and you can definitely still get a cold. The Flu shot doesn’t protect you against getting a cold, only the Flu. Boosting your immunity, keeping your surfaces clean and disinfected, and washing your hands will definitely reduce the likelihood of getting a cold. And if you choose to have a Flu shot, then washing your hands and boosting your immunity are still important, and reduce your chances even more.
The reason tea has been a popular beverage for thousands of years, is because of its health benefits.
As you all know, I am an International Tea Master.
I became enthralled by the Camellia Sinensis Tea House while I was studying to become a tea master.
The Camellia Sinensis Tea House is in Montreal. It is a gorgeous teahouse to visit, but what I loved the most is that it is run by 4 passionate, driven, professional tea tasters. They have been travelling the world since 1998 opening up new markets and studying the different effects of soil, climate, region and rainfall on various tea plantations. This has given them exclusive access to some exceptionally rare teas, some of which would not otherwise leave their countries of origin.
They write a magnificent book called TEA.
I was ecstatic to find out that the team at Camellia Sinensis asked Trans Biotech to measure the concentrations of various components present in an infusion in order to evaluate their attributes.
Trans Biotech provides services in research, development and technical analysis. The researchers in immunology and pharmacology at the centre measure the inflammatory response of cells when they are bought into contact with a bioactive molecule. They also evaluate the effect of various molecules on the immune system. They analyze the power of various molecules to penetrate the intestinal wall as well as their bioavailability and their absorption by the body.
The team at Camellia Sinensis asked Trans Biotech to analyze the infusion, (so not the leaves), so the results obtained are a true reflection of the tea in the cup of a consumer.
I was so wrapt when I read the results of their studies because I have written a book on the subject called “Supercharge your Immunity”. So as not to bombard you with anymore psychobabble, basically Trans Biotech proved that the micronutrients in tea are bioavailable, or able to be used by the body and the immune system.
In my book I outline the Do’s and Don’ts of cold and Flu prevention. What is the Immune System and how it works and I outline my simple tips to avoid a cold and flu this winter by at least 50%.

There are many studies that prove the health benefits of teas and herbs. You only have to spend a couple of minutes with Mr. Google to find thousands of studies. Tea has been used for thousands of years for its health benefits.
Traditional Chinese Medicine recommends drinking at least 3 cups a day to keep healthy.
Recent International Studies presented in New York, during the International Scientific Symposium on Tea and Human Health, reveal that the antioxidant activity of two cups of tea is equal to seven glasses of orange juice, five medium sized onions or 4 medium sized apples.
The polyphenols are powerful antioxidants, fighting cell damage caused by free radicals. Polyphenols have anti cancer properties, are powerful anti-inflammatories that play a preventative roll against the risk of cardio vascular disease, stimulate the metabolism, by decreasing the absorption of fat, lower the level of cholesterol and sugar in the blood, boost the immune system, play a roll in preventing the loss of bone density, decrease lung damage caused by cigarette smoke, protect the skin against damage caused by the suns rays, and have an anti inflammatory effect on the digestive system and intestinal tract.
I have been very concerned about the news lately. We are entering a winter where 4000 people are expected to die from the flu. That seems unbelievable to me. 60 people have already lost their life from complications of the flu and we are only 11 days in to winter.
I have written a book on the subject called “Supercharge your Immunity”. I urge everyone to please get their free copy and hand it around to all your friends and family. In the book I explain the truth about the only way you can catch the flu. I dispel a few myths, and offer ways to minimize your chances of getting the flu by more than 50%. It costs nothing but could make sure you will get through this season with no sick days.

I was going to announce the participants in our Tea Society Challenge today, but we have had difficulty getting on to some of them. We need to tell them first. So, it looks like I will be live again tomorrow for the announcement. We are very excited to get started.
You all know I love to hear from you my loyal Tea Tribe, so keep those questions and comments coming.
